Pirates homestand highlights for April 2-8
The Pirates open their 2018 season on the road as the team plays the Opening Series in Detroit vs the Tigers.
The Bucs return home to open up PNC Park with a continuation of interleague play vs the Minnesota Twins and followed by a four-game weekend series vs. the Cincinnati Reds. Opening Day at PNC Park will celebrate the return of baseball to the 'Burgh.
The Opening Day pregame is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to be in their seats early to ensure they do not miss a moment of the special ceremonies.
Monday, April 2, 2018 - Pirates vs. Minnesota Twins (1:05 p.m.) Home Opener presented by PNC Bank
• Magnetic Schedule Day: All fans in attendance receive Pirates 2018 Magnetic Schedules, compliments of PNC Bank.
• 2018 Pirates Calendar: As a special bonus today, all fans in attendance will receive a special Pirates 2018 calendar featuring all of their favorite Buccos.
• Gate Time: PNC Park gates will open to ALL FANS at 11 a.m.
• Pirates Pregame: All fans in attendance are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:30 p.m. as Pirates play-by-play broadcaster, Greg Brown, will welcome everyone to PNC Park for the 2018 Home Opener and begin the pregame ceremony.
• Honorary First Pitch: A special guest of PNC Bank, racing legend and Pittsburgher Chip Ganassi will toss the honorary first pitch before today's game.
• Lineup: Members of the Pirates and Twins will take part in player introductions on the infield lines.
• Moment of Silence: Today in a pregame ceremony the Pirates, Twins and everyone in attendance at PNC Park will observe a moment of silence for Pirates alumni Ross Powell, Manny Jimenez, Al Luplow, Bob Bailey, Laurin Pepper and Curt Raydon, as well as longtime Pirates official scorer Tony Krizmanich, all of whom have passed away in the last year.
• American Flag Unveil: In celebration of the start of the 18th season at PNC Park, select Pirates Season Ticket Holders will join with 80 local service men and women to unfurl a giant American Flag on the field.
• God Bless America: Today, God Bless America and the National Anthem will be performed by members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Cello Quartet.
• First Pitch: Six-time All Star and 1960 World Series Champion El Roy Face will throw out today's ceremonial first pitch. Face is a dedicated member of the Pirates alumni organization and this year is celebrating his 90th birthday.
Tuesday, April 3, 2018 - Off Day
Wednesday, April 4. 2018 - Pirates vs. Minnesota Twins (6:05 p.m.)
• Buc Night: Tonight, at the special 6:05 p.m. start time, the Pirates have partnered with Sugardale to host the popular "Buc Night" promotion at PNC Park. A limited number of one-dollar tickets were made available via the MLB Ballpark App. For more information, visit pirates.com/BucNight.
In addition:
• Sugardale Hot Dogs will be available for just one dollar at all North Shore Refreshment and Federal St. Grille locations. There will also be one dollar off all fountain drinks at all PNC Park general concession stands.
• Popcorn will be available for one dollar at the following North Shore refreshment stands: Sections 114, 119, 123, 135, 307, 318, 328
Thursday, April 5, 2018 - Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds (7:05 p.m.)
• Military Day: Come out to support and honor our brave American military service men and women. The Pirates will wear their new Military Days jerseys and special caps.
• On Field Military Ceremony: As part of tonight's Military Day efforts, a group from Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania will be honored during a pregame on-field ceremony and hosted in the Pirates Charities Suite. The mission of the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania is to provide essential housing, employment, and vital supportive services to eligible local Veterans, service members, and their families with the goal of improving their self-sufficiency, sustainability, and quality of life.
• 50/50 Raffle: Tonight's Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, will benefit the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania. Friday, April 6, 2018- Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds (7:05 p.m.)
• Free Shirt Friday: Tonight, the Pirates popular Free Shirt Fridays return as the first 20,000 fans, with paid admission, will receive a Pirates tee, presented By Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Allegheny Health Network.
• Dollar Dog Night: New for the 2018 season, and as a special thank you to the fans, the Pirates announced a special fan value promotion with the Dollar Dog Nights at PNC Park on select Friday nights. During one of the eight "Dollar Dog" nights throughout the season, fans can visit any North Shore concession stand throughout the ballpark and purchase regular hot dogs for just one dollar each.
Saturday, April 7, 2018 - Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds (7:05 p.m.)
• Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) Summit: This morning, Pirates President Frank Coonelly will be the featured speaker at the 9:30 a.m. Coaching Boys into Men (CBIM) summit presented by the United Way, FISA Foundation and Heinz. CBIM helps to inspire and empower young athletes, who are often leaders in school culture, to be models of healthy behaviors for their peers. • First Responders Night: The Pittsburgh Pirates would like to show appreciation for the men and women of Pennsylvania who serve as law enforcement officers, corrections officers, public safety, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and first responders during our First Responders Night tonight at PNC Park. Invited are friends, family and the general public to PNC Park for a pregame on Federal Street to celebrate all of our First Responders. And all First Responders who purchase tickets through pirates.com/firstresponders will receive a special co-branded EMS, firefighters, or law enforcement Pirates cap with their ticket purchase.
• First Responders Pregame:
• The Pirates will honor the memory of Officer Brian Shaw, New Kensington police officer killed in the line of duty in November 2017.
• The proceeds from tonight's Pirates Charities 50/50 raffle, presented by Rivers Casino, will benefit the Officer Brian Shaw Memorial Fund.
• First Pitch: Tonight, Officer Steffan Shaw, the brother of Officer Brian Shaw, will throw out the game time first pitch.
• The New Kensington Police Honor Guard will present the colors before tonight's game
• Pregame Ceremony: The Pirates will honor local police, fire, paramedic and EMS personnel in a special pregame ceremony.
• Zambelli Fireworks Night: Fans are encouraged to stay in their seats immediately following the game and enjoy an amazing Zambelli Fireworks International fireworks display.
Sunday, April 8, 2018 - Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds (1:35 p.m.)-Kid's Day at PNC Park
• Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A and more. • Game Time Pitch: Pittsburgh native John-Henry Krueger, United States 2018 silver medalist speed skater, will throw out the game time first pitch in a special pregame on-field ceremony. The Mount Lebanon product won the silver in the Men's 1,000 meter speed skating event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeong Chang in February.
• Kids Rally Towel: Today, all kids ages 14 and younger, with paid admission, will receive a special Pirates rally towel, presented by Chick-Fil-a.
• Kids Run the Bases: Kids attending today's game are invited to stick around after to run the bases on the field at PNC Park with the Kids Run the Bases, presented by Rivendale Farms.
Pittsburgh Pirates 5K/10K
On Saturday, April 14, the Pirates will host the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K presented by Allegheny Health Network and Highmark. The morning event, benefitting Pirates Charities, will be held on Pittsburgh's North Shore, with the 5K and 10K beginning together at 7:30 a.m. A perfect tune-up for the Pittsburgh Marathon, thousands of participants of all ages and abilities will take part. The top finishers from each category will be recognized in a pre-game on-field ceremony at a later date and all participants will receive a special medal as they cross home plate at PNC Park. The No. 1 Pirates Fan - The participant with the most festive Pirates attire - will win a customized jersey and two complimentary tickets to an upcoming home game. College Baseball at PNC Park
The Pirates announced the Club will host a Penn State University and West Virginia University baseball regular season game on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at PNC Park. This marks the second game in as many years the two will play at PNC Park as the Pirates hosted the matchup in 2017. Tickets to the game are on sale now at Pirates.com/collegebaseball for the general public ($10); Penn State and WVU season ticket holders, partners, donors, alumni and faculty as well as Pirates Season Ticket Holders ($7); as well as for students of either university ($2).
Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffles
The Pirates Charities 50/50 Raffle, supported by Rivers Casino, is back for the 2018 season. The 50/50 Raffles will take place during each Pirates home game throughout the season. Raffle ticket prices are three (3) tickets for $5, 10 tickets for $10 and 40 tickets for $20 with all proceeds benefiting Pirates Charities. Raffle ticket sales close after the last out in the sixth inning. The winning number will be drawn and announced in the 8th inning and the winner will receive 50 percent of the total pot. Winning numbers will also be posted on pirates.com/5050raffle within three business days.
