Pirates set 40-man roster

The Pittsburgh Pirates have added the following three players to their 40-man roster, in addition to trading infielder Gift Ngoepe to the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named or cash considerations. There are now 38 players on the current roster (21 pitchers, 3 catchers, 7 infielders and 7 outfielders).
Dario Agrazal (RHP) - Spent majority of 2017 season with Bradenton, where he went 5-3 with a 2.91 ERA (80.1ip/26er) in 14 games (13 starts)...Was selected to the Florida State League mid-season All-Star team...Also made one appearance with Double-A Altoona on 6/21...Native of Panama was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent on 7/1/12...Was named to the Dominican Summer League mid-season All-Star team in 2013; went 6-0 with a 2.40 ERA in 13 games that summer...Shared Gulf Coast League lead in starts (12) in 2014...Was a New York-Penn League All-Star while pitching with Morgantown-WV in 2015; ranked third in the league in ERA (2.72)...Led South Atlantic League in innings pitched (150.0) while pitching with West Virginia in 2016.
Luis Escobar (RHP) - Led the South Atlantic League and the Pirates minor league system with 168 strikeouts in 2017 while spending entire season with West Virginia...Represented the Pirates at the All-Star Futures Game in Miami on 7/9...Colombia native was signed as non-drafted free agent on 7/8/13...Tied for second among Gulf Coast League pitchers with 11 starts in 2015...Has gone 20-17 with a 3.79 ERA in 67 games (63 starts) during his four-year minor league career.
Austin Meadows (OF) - Pittsburgh's top prospect entering the 2017 campaign...Hit .250 with 19 doubles, four homers and 36 RBI in 72 Triple-A games during an injury-shortened season...Was Pittsburgh's first round selection (ninth overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and was selected to the Gulf Coast League postseason All-Star team that season after debuting with the GCL Pirates...Led Florida State League in hits (156) while playing with Bradenton in 2015.
