Pirates Sign Designated Hitter Marcell Ozuna To One-Year Contract With Mutual Option For 2027

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that the team has signed designated hitter Marcell Ozuna to a one-year contract for the 2026 season, with a mutual option for the 2027 season.

The 35-year-old Ozuna has been named to three National League All-Star teams (2016, 2017, 2024) in his career, while also taking home an N.L. Silver Slugger in 2017 and 2020, and a Gold Glove (left field) in 2017.

He batted .232 (113-for-487) with 19 doubles, 21 home runs, 68 RBI and 94 walks across his 145 games with Atlanta during the 2025 campaign. Ozuna’s 123 home runs since the start of the 2022 season are the fourth-most in the National League and are tied for the ninth-most in all of Major League Baseball.

Ozuna finished fourth in National League Most Valuable Player Award voting in 2024 after hitting .302 (183 for-606) with 31 doubles, 39 home runs, 104 RBI and a .924 OPS while playing in each of the Braves’ 162 games. He ranked second in the N.L. in both home runs and total bases (331), third in batting, hits, OBP (.378), slugging (.546) and OPS, tied for fourth in RBI, sixth in extra-base hits (70) and eighth in runs (96).

His 79 total home runs from 2023-24 ranked sixth in MLB (his 204 RBI during that stretch ranked ninth).

Ozuna has hit .269 (1627-for-6045) with 296 home runs, 948 RBI and an .805 OPS in 1614 regular-season games over 13 Major League seasons with Miami (2013-17), St. Louis (2018-19) and Atlanta (2020-25). Since debuting in 2013, he ranks fifth in the National League in RBI, sixth in home runs and seventh in hits.

He has also played in 30 postseason games with St. Louis (2019) and Atlanta (2020, 2022-24), during which he has batted .250 (29-for-116) with seven doubles, five home runs, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored.

Ozuna will wear uniform No. 24.

Outfielder Jack Suwinski has been designated for assignment to make room for Ozuna on the 40-man roster, which remains full.
