Pirates to host 'Check Your Blind Spots' Bus Tour
The Pittsburgh Pirates are working with the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion™ to host the CEO Action’s “Check Your Blind Spots” unconscious bias tour bus this Thursday, June 6, prior to the 12:35 p.m. game vs. the Atlanta Braves. The virtual reality and gaming technology tour bus is intended to help fans learn about unconscious biases (or blind spots) that can narrow a person’s vision and potentially influence their behavior in the workplace and community.
The exhibit is open to the public and will be located in Gold Lot 4, across from the PNC Park Home Plate Gate on the corner of General Robinson and Mazeroski Way, this Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As part of the program, individuals will take a look at their own unconscious biases through the highly interactive tour activities using the specially designed virtual reality and gaming technology.
The interactive activities include:
- Look Through a Different Lens: Via gamification and digital viewfinder, participants watch an interaction between co-workers and then identify moments when unconscious biases are demonstrated.
- Face Yourself, Face Reality: In front of a mirror, participants watch as their reflection fades away to reveal a different person staring back at them. Through this touchscreen experience, each new reflection shares a series of biases they've experienced.
We may not even realize we’re making judgments or assumptions about people’s character, abilities and potential.That’s our unconscious biases or blind spots at play. This tour is intended to help us recognize, acknowledge and therefore minimize any potential blind spots we might have, but were not aware of previously.
The CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion is the largest CEO-driven business commitment to improve diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
