2020 Colorado Rockies home opener information
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies will celebrate the 28th Home Opener in franchise history, the 26th at Coors Field, today, Friday, July 31 vs. the San Diego Padres. Although it will be the first in franchise history without fans in attendance, media and fans should be aware of some of the festivities planned for tonight’s 6:10 p.m. first pitch. The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet, KOA NewsRadio 850 AM & 94.1 FM and KNRV 1150 AM (Spanish).
- Pregame ceremonies will begin at approximately 5:50 p.m.
- Virtual first pitch by Laurie Feger, a Rockies Plan Holder and nurse at a local hospital. Laurie’s husband, Gary, and their son both have health issues that make them high risk for COVID-19. To do her part to help combat the spread of the disease, Laurie volunteered to work in the COVID Clinic at her hospital.
- Virtual first pitch by Janeaya, the Boys & Girls Clubs’ 2020 Senior Youth of the Year winner. A member of the Owens Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, where the Rockies have been a clubhouse sponsor for the last 10 years, Janeaya mangers a GPA of 4.2 despite a very challenging home life as a youth, and she has excelled in the Boys and Girls Clubs’ leadership development program.
- Pregame videos will include a thank you to frontline workers, a racial justice video by the Players Alliance, a Rockies Opening Day video and a special video from players’ families.
- Presentation of the 2019 Gold Glove and Platinum Glove to third baseman Nolan Arenado, and the 2019 Silver Slugger to shortstop Trevor Story
- Full roster introductions of the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies
- Recorded national anthem performed by Master Sergeant Julie Bradley from the United States Air Force Academy Band, accompanied by fireworks
- Flyover by four F-16 Fighting Falcons, part of the 140th Wing Squadron of the Colorado Air National Guard. This unit deploys their aviation package around the world in support of on-going contingency operations while simultaneously operating an alert mission 24/7/365 to help protect our nation from airborne threats. Piloting the aircrafts today are Lt. Col. Mike Gommel, Maj. Kyle Rutherford, Maj. Jordan Wilkie and Maj. Carson Brusch.
