3B José Ramírez earns fourth career Silver Slugger Award
CLEVELAND, OH – Major League Baseball and Louisville Slugger tonight announced the recipients of the 2022 American League Silver Slugger Awards. 3B JOSÉ RAMÍREZ captured his fourth career award, equaling Albert Belle’s (1993-96) club record.
For the season, Ramίrez batted .280 (168-for-601) with 44 doubles, 5 triples, 29 home runs and a career-high 126 RBI in 157 games despite enduring the last three and a half months with a torn ligament in his right thumb. José’s 126 RBI were second in the A.L. to Aaron Judge’s 131 and were the most by a Cleveland batter since 2001. He also led the league in doubles for the second time, the first Cleveland batter since Lou Boudreau (1941-47) to lead the circuit multiple times.
Ramίrez was a force early in the season, earning A.L. Player of the Month honors in April (.342/.411/.722/1.133, 15 XBH, 28 RBI, 21G) and a pair of league weekly honors in April and May, reaching 40 extra-base hits in a club record 59 games. He was at his best with runners on base, batting .330 with runners on, .331 with RISP and .346 with RISP/2outs. He also finished eighth in the A.L. in bWAR (6.0) despite drawing a Major League-high 20 intentional walks, the second-highest single-season total in club history and the most since 1942.
