A’s Exercise 2020 Club Option on RHP Yusmeiro Petit

Oakland, Calif. – The Oakland A’s have exercised their 2020 club option on right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit. The club declined their 2020 option on left-handed pitcher Jake Diekman.

Petit pitched in an American League-leading 80 games and was 5-3 with a 2.71 ERA and a .194 opponents batting average. He had career-best marks in games, ERA, opponents batting average and on-base percentage (.218). Petit walked just 10 batters in 83.0 innings and struck out 71 for a career-high strikeout-to-walk ratio of 7.10.

Petit has pitched for six clubs in his 14-year Major League career, spanning 804.1 innings pitched. He holds a 3.99 career ERA, including a 40-40 record, 713 strikeouts and 188 walks in 411 appearances.

Diekman began the season with Kansas City and was 0-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 48 relief appearances when he was traded to Oakland on July 27. He went 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 28 games with the A’s and had a 4.65 ERA in a career-high 76 relief appearances overall. He ranked second in the American League in games pitched and held opponents to a .215 batting average.
