A's Recall LHP Kirby Snead and Select INF Tyler Wade from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled left-handed pitcher Kirby Snead and selected infielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The A’s also reinstated catcher Manny Piña from the injured list and designated him for assignment.

Snead joins the A’s for the second time this year but has yet to pitch for Oakland. He began the season on the 60-day injured list with a strained left shoulder, was reinstated on June 30 and then optioned to Las Vegas on July 1. The 28-year-old left-hander combined for a 7.94 ERA and .977 opponents OPS in 19 appearances with the A’s affiliate in the Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Las Vegas. Snead compiled a 1.00 ERA and .660 OPS over his last 10 minor league appearances dating back to July 7.

Wade joins the A’s for the third time this year and is batting .255 with a double, triple and two RBI in 26 games over his first two stints with Oakland. He was with the A’s most recently from June 17 to July 13 and then hit .297 with a home run and five RBI in 10 games with Las Vegas after being outrighted on July 14. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter was batting .251 with two home runs, 20 RBI and a .674 OPS in 52 games overall with the Aviators.

Piña began the season on the 60-day injured list with a sprained left wrist and was reinstated on July 4. He went 3-for-12 (.250) with a home run in four games with the A’s before returning to the IL July 11 with a left wrist contusion. Piña started a rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton on July 23, was moved to Las Vegas on July 25 and was 6-for-18 (.333) with four walks in six rehab appearances.
