ALCS roster substitution for Toronto approved: Joey Loperfido to replace Anthony Santander for remainder of ALCS
Major League Baseball announced today that it has approved a roster substitution for the Toronto Blue Jays due to an injury sustained by outfielder Anthony Santander. As a result, Santander will be replaced by outfielder Joey Loperfido on Toronto’s roster vs. the Seattle Mariners for the remainder of the American League Championship Series Presented by loanDepot. Dr. Gary Green, MLB’s Medical Director, confirmed the injury after a full review of the medical information.
MLB Postseason rules provide that a Club may request permission from the Commissioner’s Office to replace a player who is unable to play because of an injury. The Commissioner’s Office may approve or disapprove the request based on the specific facts and circumstances. In accordance with the rules, Santander will be ineligible to return in the World Series Presented by Capital One if the Blue Jays participate.
FOX or FS1 will combine with FOX Deportes, the FOX Sports App and FOX One to cover the ALCS, while TNT Sports will simulcast the NLCS on TBS, truTV and HBO Max. All Postseason games telecast on FOX/FS1 and TNT Sports platforms will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider.
ESPN Radio will also provide live national coverage of all 2025 MLB Postseason games. MLB Network will air extensive studio coverage throughout the Postseason across the Emmy Award-winning MLB Tonight, the Emmy-nominated MLB Central, MLB Now and Intentional Talk.
In addition to ALCS coverage on FOX Deportes, 2025 NLCS games will be telecast in Spanish on the Univision networks, while Univision Radio will continue to provide live Spanish language audio coverage throughout the Postseason. The 2025 Postseason will be broadcast to 203 countries by 44 media partners in 16 languages around the globe.
