Angels acquire INF José Iglesias

ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired INF José Iglesias from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for minor league right-handed pitchers Garrett Stallings and Jean Pinto.

Iglesias, 30, appeared in 39 games for the Orioles in 2020 and led the Majors (min. 100 PA) with a .373 (53/142) batting average, while his 17 doubles ranked second in the American League.

A native of La Habana, Cuba, Iglesias has appeared in 841 career games across nine Major League seasons with the Red Sox (2011-13), Tigers (2013-18), Reds (2019) and Orioles (2020). He finished second in A.L. Rookie of the Year voting in 2013 and was selected to the A.L. All-Star team in 2015.

Stallings, 23, was selected by the Angels in the 5th round of the 2019 Draft out of the University of Tennessee. Pinto, 19, was originally signed by the Halos as an international free agent May 8, 2019.
