Angels sign RHP José Cisnero

ANAHEIM – The Angels today agreed to a one-year, $1.75 million contract with RHP José Cisnero. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, INF Livan Soto has been designated for assignment.

Cisnero, 34, completed his fifth season with Detroit in 2023, where he appeared in 63 games and posted a 3-4 record with two saves, a 5.31 ERA (59.1 IP – 35 ER) and 70 strikeouts. He did not allow a run in 22 of 28 outings from April 24 – July 2 and registered a 1.38 ERA (26 IP – 4 ER) in that span, including an 11 game stretch without allowing an earned run for the month of June. Since joining the Tigers in 2019, his 222 appearances led all Detroit pitchers and he registered a 3.84 ERA (211 IP – 90 ER) and 229 strikeouts across the five seasons.

A native of Bajos de Haina, Dominican Republic, Cisnero was originally signed by Houston as an international free agent in 2007 and made his Major League debut with the Astros in 2013. He has totaled 255 career MLB games (all in relief) across parts of seven seasons with the Astros (2013-14) and Tigers (2019-23). Additionally, he has pitched parts of 10 Winter League seasons in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
