Blue Jays acquire Matz

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired LHP Steven Matz from the New York Mets in exchange for RHP Yennsy Diaz, RHP Sean Reid-Foley, and RHP Josh Winckowski.

Matz, 29, made six starts and three relief appearances as he posted a 9.68 ERA for the Mets last season, spending the final month of the campaign on the injured list with left shoulder discomfort. The 6-2, 201 lb. lefty went 11-10 with a 4.21 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP across 30 starts and two relief outings in 2019. The native of Stony Brook, NY, was selected by New York in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and has pitched all 112 of his games in a Mets uniform. Over the course of six Major League seasons, Matz has gone 31-41 with a 4.35 ERA and 552 strikeouts over 579.2 innings of work.
