Blue Jays celebrate 30th anniversary of the 1992 World Series championship on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Ballpark
On October 24, 1992, in Atlanta, with the tying run on third and two out in the bottom of the 11th, Toronto Blue Jays Mike Timlin came into the game to face Otis Nixon for the biggest out of his career. As all of Canada held its breath, the right-hander grabbed Nixon’s bunt, threw it to Joe Carter at first, and history was made.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Toronto Blue Jays are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the club’s momentous 1992 World Series win, marking the first time the championship was brought north of the border. Blue Jays fans from coast-to-coast-to-coast are invited to commemorate and relive the historic win during the game at Rogers Centre and on Sportsnet, including:
- More than 15 members of the 1992 World Series team in attendance to celebrate during a special pregame ceremony, featuring Pat Borders, Joe Carter, Dave Stieb, Todd Stottlemyre, Mike Timlin, Duane Ward, Devon White, Dave Winfield, Cito Gaston, Paul Beeston, Gord Ash, and more
- Fans will be taken back to some of the great moments and memories from the 1992 championship season and playoff run
- Throwback giveaways on the WestJet Flight Deck as part of the pregame ceremony, replicating fan-favourite rallying cries from the 1992 season
- The first 15,000 fans receive a retro Blue Jays Bomber Jacket giveaway upon entry
“Blue Jays fans are truly the best in the game, so this is a special opportunity to return to Toronto and celebrate a historic moment, not only in baseball, but for all of Canada,” said Cito Gaston, manager of the 1992 Toronto Blue Jays. “During the 1992 World Series, the team could feel the support from the fans, and their energy propelled us to the championship. I look forward to seeing so many of them at the ballpark this weekend.”
Fans attending the game should arrive early to catch the full pregame ceremony; gates open at 1 p.m. ET ahead of ceremonies at 2:30 p.m. ET and first pitch at 3:07 p.m. ET vs. the Los Angeles Angels. Those watching from home should tune in to a special edition of Blue Jays Central on Sportsnet beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
