The Rockies announced today that they have acquired LHP Yoan Aybar from Boston in exchange for INF Christian Koss. Aybar will be added to Colorado’s 40-man roster, which is currently at 38 players.
- Aybar, 23, did not pitch in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic … the 6-2, 210-pound left-hander was signed by Boston as a non-drafted international free agent on Aug. 9, 2013 and has gone 3-4 with a 4.45 ERA (85.0 IP, 42 ER) in 61 career relief appearances across four Minor League levels since 2018, when he converted to pitching after spending his first four professional seasons as an outfielder … has batted .241 (212-for-880) with 107 runs, 33 doubles, 22 triples, five home runs, 93 RBI, 23 stolen bases, 38 walks and 266 strikeouts since 2014 … made his High-A debut for Salem in 2019, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts over five innings of work (four appearances) … spent the majority of 2019 with Low-A Greenville, where he went 1-3 with a 4.88 ERA (51.2 IP, 28 ER), 40 walks and 67 strikeouts over 40 appearances … was added to Boston’s 40-man roster on Nov. 20, 2019.
