Colorado Rockies agree to terms with Competitive Balance Round A selection Drew Romo

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms with catcher Drew Romo, who was selected in competitive balance round A of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of The Woodlands High School in Woodlands, Texas. With his signing, the Rockies have now signed all six of their selections from this year’s Draft. Per Club policy, terms of the agreements will not be disclosed.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound switch-hitter batted .232 with 11 runs scored, 11 RBI and six extra-base hits prior to the cancellation of the remainder of his senior season at The Woodlands. As a junior in 2019, Romo batted .397 with 17 doubles, four home runs and 35 RBI en route to being named to the Texas Baseball Coaches Association Class 6A All-State Team. Rated as one of the best defensive catchers in the 2020 Draft, the LSU-commit was the starting catcher for the United States’ 18-and-under national team for each of the past two years. His selection in competitive balance round A of the Draft is the highest selection for a catcher in Rockies franchise history.
