D-backs Award Kristian Robinson, Ryan Weiss With Monthly Honors

PHOENIX —The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Single-A Kane County OF Kristian Robinson (@krobbie_242) and Single-A Adv. Visalia RHP Ryan Weiss (@Weiss2Ryan) the organization’s Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for July.

Robinson, 18, hit .320 (32-for-100)/.404 OBP/.630 SLG with 5 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored and 13 walks in 27 games in July for Short-Season A Hillsboro. He ranked among the Northwest League leaders in home runs (2nd), RBI (2nd), slugging pct. (2nd, 1.034), OPS (2nd, 1.034), stolen bases (T-2nd, 9), runs (T-3rd), hits (T-4th), and on-base pct. (6th). Robinson reached base safely in 24 of 27 games last month, including a 7-game hitting streak from July 14-21. He was promoted to Single-A Kane County on August 3, making him the youngest position player in the Midwest League. A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Robinson was signed by the D-backs as a Minor League free agent on July 2, 2017.

Weiss, 22, went 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA (4 ER in 29.0 IP), .225 opponent average, 1.10 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 5 starts for Kane County in July. He ranked among the Midwest League leaders in wins (1st), ERA (5th), WHIP (T-8th) and opponent average (T-9th). Weiss opened the month with 19.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run across 4 starts from July 6-24. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder was promoted to Single-A Adv. Visalia yesterday. A native of South Elgin, Ill., he was selected by the D-backs in the fourth round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Wright State University.

Every month during the season, the D-backs Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
