Dodgers Foundation will distribute food in Nickerson Gardens tomorrow following 2020 World Series championship
Oct. 29, 2020 (LOS ANGELES)—The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will distribute food boxes and hygiene essentials at its 15th grab-and-go giveaway Friday in Watts in collaboration with the Housing Authority City of Los Angeles (HACLA). The giveaway will take place at Nickerson Gardens (1450 E. 114th St., Los Angeles, 90059) from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Friday.
In its 25th year, LADF has awarded grants and in-kind donations to 106 community organizations; distributed 461,000 meals; and made other in-kind donations to 5,500 families in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and a continued push for social justice.
More socially-distanced events, such as the one in Nickerson Gardens, are planned for the coming weeks to meet urgent community needs.
“As we enter our 25th year, we are even more committed to supporting all Angelenos as they cope with uncertainty and anxiety,” said Nichol Whiteman, CEO of LADF. “We recognize that communities throughout Los Angeles have an increased risk of illness and economic despair based simply on the color of their skin and zip code. Our goal is to give these families the same opportunities as our wealthiest.”
Named ESPN’s Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year, LADF is bigger than baseball with ambitions to be the city’s premier charity. Its focus is on Los Angeles’ most pressing problems: improving young Angelenos’ access to education, health care and sports. This week it launched a new website to highlight its expanded and ambitious mission.
Since games resumed, more than 11,000 fan cutouts have filled Dodger Stadium, raising nearly $2 million for LADF.
“With so many threats to the health and vitality of communities that were already in crisis, the 25th year reminds us of the important role that we play in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles,” said Mark Walter, Chairman of LADF and the owner of the Dodgers. “These are dire times requiring an acceleration of our mission to provide the critical essentials that every family deserves.”

We are tackling the most pressing problems facing Los Angeles with a mission to improve education, health care, homelessness and social justice for all Angelenos. Since 1995, we have invested more than $32 million in programs and grants to nonprofits, and fundraising has increased by 1,000% since 2012. That growth has enabled us to do more.
