Endy Rodriguez and J.P. Massey selected to represent Pirates organization at All-Star Futures Game

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher/first baseman Endy Rodriguez and right-handed pitcher J.P. Massey have been named to the National League roster for this year’s All-Star Futures Game. The game will take place on Saturday, July 8, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.

The 23-year-old Rodriguez is currently rated as the No. 5 catching prospect in the game by MLB Pipeline and 39th among the top 100 prospects in the game by the same outlet.

Rodriguez has spent the entire season with Triple-A Indianapolis, where he is hitting .248 (56-for-226) with 11 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 31 RBI in 56 games. The switch-hitting Rodriguez is also hitting .323 (10-for-31) with four doubles, a home run, 11 RBI, .405 OBP, .548 slugging percentage and .953 OPS in his last eight games. Rodriguez, who entered the season rated as Pittsburgh’s No. 1 prospect by Baseball America, has made 44 starts behind the plate and seven starts at first base this year with Indianapolis.

The 23-year-old Massey ranked sixth in the Florida State League with 57 strikeouts at the time he was promoted to High-A Greensboro on June 20. Massey took home Florida State League Pitcher-of-the-Month honors in May after recording an 0.72 ERA (25.0ip/2er), 29 strikeouts and .167 batting average against in five starts. Beginning with his outing on May 6, Massey’s 2.25 ERA ranked first among all Florida State League pitchers until the time he was transferred to Greensboro.

Coming into today, Massey has a combined 2.98 ERA (54.1ip/18er), 61 strikeouts, 1.33 WHIP and .224 batting average against in 12 appearances (10 starts) this season between Bradenton and Greensboro.

The Pirates selected Massey in the seventh round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Minnesota.
