Indians confirm RHP Heath Hembree signing

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today announced the signing of free agent RHP HEATH HEMBREE to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League camp.

Hembree, 32, has spent the bulk of his career in the Boston Red Sox bullpen, logging the second-most appearances (251) among Sox relievers over the last seven seasons since his acquisition from the San Francisco Giants in July of 2014. He opened the season with Boston, allowing only two earned runs over his first 10 outings (9.2 IP) before being shipped to the Philadelphia Phillies on August 21. Right elbow issues limited his effectiveness over the last five weeks of the season and ended his campaign on Sept. 20. He was selected by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of the College of Charleston.

Cleveland currently has 11 non-roster invitees to Major League camp.
