Indians extend seven non-roster invitations to Major League Spring Training camp

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today extended non-roster invitations to seven players to 2021 Major League Spring Training Camp.

C Gavin Collins (25)

Was a non-roster player in 2020. Spent 2019 season at Single-A Lynchburg, appearing in 54 games at catcher, 29 games at first base and 1 game at third base. Club’s 13th round pick in 2016.

RHP Kyle Dowdy (28)

Acquired by Cleveland from Detroit along with OF Leonys Martin in July 2018. Was a Rule 5 draft selection by the NY Mets in December 2018, later claimed by the Texas Rangers, making his first 13 Major League appearances before being returned to Cleveland. Was a non-roster invitee in 2020.

INF Mike Freeman (33)

Re-signed this morning to a Minor League deal. Has spent the majority of the last two seasons with Cleveland, appearing in 24 games in 2020 across five different positions. Enjoyed the best season of his career in 2019, batting .277 (49-for-177) with a .752 OPS in 75 games.

INF Tyler Freeman (21)

Was the 71st overall selection after the second round (Comp. Balance Rd. B) in the 2017 draft out of Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Spent the 2020 season at the Lake County Alternate Training Site. Was an organizational all-star in 2019 (MILB.com_), leading the system in hits (151), runs (89) and doubles (32) between Single-A Lake County and Lynchburg. Listed as the third-best prospect in the org. by _Baseball America entering 2021.

INF Owen Miller (24)

Acquired from San Diego on August 31 in nine-player swap. Split the 2020 campaign between San Diego and Cleveland’s Alternate Training Sites, appearing in 8 games for SD as a non-roster player in Spring and Summer Camp. Spent 2019 season with Amarillo (AA) where his 147 hits headlined the Texas League and his .290 average (147-for-507) ranked T-7th. Named a Texas League and org all-star (MILB.com_). Listed as the 18th-best prospect in the system by _Baseball America entering 2021.

C Bo Naylor (20)

Was Cleveland’s first round selection (29th overall) in the 2018 draft out of St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Mississauga, Ontario. Recently named the 42nd-overall prospect in MLB by the Athletic’s Keith Law. Spent 2020 at the Alternate Training Site and batted .243 with 18 2B, 10 3B, 11 HR and 65 RBI in 107 games for Lake County in 2019. Younger brother of Josh Naylor.

RHP Nick Sandlin (24)

Club’s second round pick in 2018 (67th overall) out of Southern Miss, where he posted the second-lowest ERA (1.06) in the NCAA that spring. Spent the 2020 season at the Alternate Training Site and sports two-year professional ERA of 2.68 over 49 relief appearances (50.1IP, 39H, 15ER, 18BB, 74SO).
