James Outman of the Los Angeles Dodgers named the National League Rookie of the Month for April; Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers named the American League Rookie of the Month for April

Outfielder James Outman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for April, and third baseman Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for April.

Outman became the first Dodgers rookie to win a monthly award since Cody Bellinger in back-to-back months in May and June of his 2017 NL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award-winning season. Jung is the first Rangers rookie to take home monthly honors since his teammate Adolis García in May 2021.

• Batted .292 (28-for-96) with four doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 20 RBI, 11 walks, 17 run scored, four stolen bases, a .615 slugging percentage and a .376 on-base percentage.
• The 25-year-old, who debuted with four games played in 2022, tied Freddie Freeman for the team lead with four stolen bases while his 20 RBI during the month tied for ninth among all NL hitters.
• The California native, who hit safely in nine of his last 13 games during his award-winning month, led all rookies in homers, RBI, slugging, triples, extra-base hits (14), OPS (.991) and total bases (59) while tying for third in runs scored.
• The seven home runs for Outman across March/April tied for the most by a Dodgers rookie in a month since Will Smith clubbed eight home runs in August 2019. In addition, he became the first Dodgers rookie to ever hit at least six

by the start of May, surpassing Alex Guerrero (five in 2015) and Joe Ferguson (five in 1973).

• Outman slugged two homers, including a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning, on April 20th against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley With the slam, he became the first Dodgers rookie to hit a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning-or-later since Andrew Toles (August 2016 at Colorado).
• The seventh round selection in the 2018 Draft recorded two triples on April 3rd against the visiting Colorado Rockies to become the first Dodgers player with multiple triples in a single game since Yasiel Puig in July 2014.
• The Cal State Sacramento product registered 32 total bases during his first 12 career games with an at-bat dating back to last season, marking the third-most by a Dodger to start his career, trailing only Puig (34) and Bellinger (33).

• The 25-year-old hit .270 (27-for-100) with five doubles, six home runs, 21 RBI, seven walks, one stolen base, 18 runs scored, a .500 slugging percentage and a .324 on-base percentage.
• The eighth overall selection in the 2019 Draft led all qualified AL rookies in runs, RBI and slugging percentage; tied for first in hits, doubles and home runs; and ranked second in batting average.
• The six home runs and 21 RBI were the most ever by a Texas rookie before the start of May, surpassing the previous highs of five home runs (Adolis García in 2021) and 16 RBI (David Murphy in 2008).
• The Texas native clubbed his first career grand slam and compiled a career-high-tying five RBI on Sunday against the visiting New York Yankees to close out his award-winning The slam marked the first by a Rangers third baseman since Adrián Beltré in August 2016, and the first by a Rangers rookie since García in August 2021.
• Jung reached base safely in 20 of his 26 games, including a career-best 10-game hitting streak from April 11th-22nd.
• The Texas Tech University product belted two home runs on April 24th at Cincinnati for his second career multi- homer game (also September 27, 2022 at Seattle).
• Josh posted six games with multiple RBI, including four contests with at least three In addition, he hit safely in 16 of 18 games overall from April 1st-22nd.

Others receiving votes for NL Rookie of the Month included outfielder Corbin Carroll (.309, 8 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 8 BB, 19 R, 10 SB, .536 SLG) of the Arizona Diamondbacks; reliever Jose Hernandez (0.77 ERA, 9 G, 11.2 IP, 10 H, 1 BB, 11 SO) of the Pittsburgh Pirates; and starting pitcher Kodai Senga (3-1, 4.15 ERA, 5 GS, 26.0 IP, 23 H, 18 BB, 32 SO) of the New York Mets.

Others receiving votes for AL Rookie of the Month included starting pitcher Hunter Brown (3-0, 2.37 ERA, 5 GS, 30.1 IP, 22 H, 10 BB, 32 SO) of the Houston Astros; reliever Yennier Cano (0.00 ERA, 9 G, 2 SV, 11.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 12 SO) of

the Baltimore Orioles; outfielder Masataka Yoshida (.276, 4 2B, 4 HR, 16 RBI, 12 BB, 2 SB, 15 R, .460 SLG) of the Boston

Red Sox; and first baseman Ryan Noda (.239, 4 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 18 BB, 1 SB, 16 R, .400 OBP) of the Oakland Athletics.
