Miami Marlins aim to strike out cancer on Tuesday, September 5, by hosting Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Night

MIAMI – Ahead of September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Miami Marlins made an impact at Alex’s Place at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center through various activities that served to provide some laughs, smiles and fun for the patients as they continue their battles. The Marlins’ efforts continue with Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday, September 5 at loanDepot park, when the Marlins host patients and their families from Alex’s Place for an All-Star experience prior to the matchup vs. the Dodgers at 6:40 p.m.

Marlins outfielder Jesus Sanchez spent the morning of August 2 – National Coloring Book Day - at Alex’s Place, coloring with the patients and designing a T-shirt that will be worn by the players and coaches during batting practice on September 5. Elements from each design were implemented into the design of the T-shirt. Marlins players and coaches signed the limited-edition Strike Out Cancer shirts, which will be available to fans to bid on through the Miami Marlins Foundation auction.

Rookie pitcher Eury Perez also visited Alex’s Place, stopping by on Tuesday, August 29 to deliver a new virtual reality (VR) headset in partnership with Starlight Children’s Foundation. The headset provides a transformative impact for the treatment of the patients, while Perez’s visit served as a fun-filled morning that brought laughs and smiles to the children.

The children from Alex’s Place will take the mound as Dr. Warren Alperstein, M.D. from the University of Miami Health System throws out the ceremonial first pitch. The Marlins will have a gold ribbon stenciled on the field to commemorate Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Night.
