Miami Marlins announce additions to Major League Medical Staff

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced the following additions to the Major League Medical Staff:

Stan Conte will serve as the Marlins’ Senior Director of Medical Services. Conte has over 25 years of Major League Baseball experience, including 14 seasons with the San Francisco Giants as the Director of Medical Services and Head Athletic Trainer as well as 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers as Vice President of Medical Services and Head Athletic Trainer.

In addition to being a certified Athletic Trainer, Conte holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Boston University.

Lee Meyer joins the Marlins as Head Athletic Trainer after spending the previous five seasons with the Houston Astros organization, including the last three as an Major League Assistant Athletic Trainer. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Licensed Athletic Trainer, and a Certified Athletic Trainer.

Meyer joined the Astros organization in 2017 following seven seasons with the New York Yankees as an athletic trainer in the club’s Minor League system. Lee also spent three offseasons as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League from 2014-16. Prior to landing a full-time position with the Yankees, Meyer held internships with the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates, as well as the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL and Walt Disney World.

Meyer graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2008, receiving his bachelor’s degree in athletic training with a minor in Spanish. He then earned his master’s degree in Sport Management at Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2009.

Richard Lembo will serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. He spent the last 19 years as the Director of Sports Medicine at the Sierra Pacific Orthopedic Center in Fresno, Calif. and brings 11 years of baseball experience to the Marlins staff, having worked as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2007-10 after serving as Head Athletic Trainer at the Minor League level with the Chicago Cubs (1994-97) and San Francisco Giants (1999-2003). He also served as an Athletic Trainer for the United States National Team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Lembo earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Charleston and a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Marshall University.

Ben Potenziano joins the staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. He comes to Miami after spending 10 seasons as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2011-20. He represented the Pirates as part of the National League athletic training staff at the 2014 All-Star Game in Minnesota.

Prior to joining the Pirates, Potenziano spent eight seasons at the Major League level with the San Francisco Giants, the last seven as the club’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.

He is a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington and earned his Master of Education from the University of Maine at Orono, where he also spent three years (1999-2002) as an assistant athletic trainer.

Erika Gonzalez-Rebull has been named the Marlins Dietitian. She joins the Marlins from the University of Miami, where she worked as the Sports Nutrition Coordinator. Prior to joining the University of Miami, she was an assistant sports nutrition consultant for the Chicago Cubs, where she managed and oversaw the nutrition for their Double-A Tennessee Smokies.

Gonzalez-Rebull earned her BSE in Exercise Physiology from the University of Miami in 2014 and in 2018 earned her MS in Nutrition in Dietetics from Florida International University. During her studies at FIU, Erika worked as a Graduate Assistant for the athletic department assisting in the development of their sports nutrition program.

Also returning to the Major League support staff in 2022 will be Strength and Conditioning Coach Lee Tressel (4th year with the Marlins), Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Amanda Sartoris (4th year with the Marlins), Major League Physical Therapist Andrew Turpin (3rd year with the Marlins), and Massage Therapist Koji Tanaka (6th year with the Marlins).
