Orioles Name Jared Banner General Manager

The Orioles today announced that JARED BANNER has been named the club’s next General Manager. Banner will work alongside President of Baseball Operations, MIKE ELIAS, managing the baseball operations department on a day-to-day basis. Banner will lead the organization’s player development, coaching and performance efforts, while also partnering with Elias on strategy, staffing, and talent acquisition, among other duties.

Banner just completed his 18th year in baseball operations, most recently serving as Assistant General Manager for the Chicago Cubs, a position he held since January 2024. He first joined the Cubs organization in December of 2020 as Vice President, Special Projects, and continued as Vice President, Player Development from 2022-23.

“When I first heard Mike’s vision, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. The Orioles are a storied franchise with a passionate fanbase, a historic ballpark, and an organization full of talent,” said Banner. “I look forward to building upon the foundation laid by Mike and his team to construct a world-class organization and bring Championships back to Baltimore. I am extremely grateful to Mike, David, and Mike for the opportunity, and I am excited to get to work.”

“Jared has been one of the rising talents in our league for some time, now. He has demonstrated success running multiple different departments and has worked alongside some of the best people and front office talent in the league across multiple stops. He is a perfect fit to grow, evolve and improve the Orioles’ baseball operations, and I look forward to working with him very closely as we build for 2027 and beyond,” said Elias. “We welcome him and his family to Baltimore, and we are very pleased that they chose our team and our community for the next phase of their baseball journey.”

Prior to joining the Cubs, Banner was part of the New York Mets organization from 2018-2020 as Executive Director, Player Development, overseeing the organization’s minor league system beginning in December of 2018. He also spent 11 years with the Boston Red Sox, supporting the organization’s journey to three World Series Championships (2018, 2013, 2007). He served as the club’s Vice President, Player Personnel in 2017-18, where he oversaw scouting professional players, notably in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Mexico. Banner began his career in professional baseball as a fellow in the Red Sox baseball operations department in 2007, was promoted to Assistant, Player Development in 2008, and named Assistant, Amateur Scouting in 2009. In 2010, he was elevated to Coordinator, Amateur Scouting before being named Assistant Director, player personnel in 2013.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Banner played four years of varsity baseball as an outfielder for Amherst College (MA) and was the team’s captain in 2007.

The Orioles will introduce Banner during a press conference at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Tuesday, October 27. Additional information will be communicated directly to media separately.
