Padres acquire Brett Sullivan and Korry Howell from Brewers

PEORIA, Ariz. – The San Diego Padres have acquired catcher Brett Sullivan and outfielder Korry Howell from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for catcher Victor Caratini and cash considerations, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller announced today.

Sullivan, 28, spent the 2021 season with Triple-A Durham, batting .223 (69-for-309) with 20 doubles, nine home runs, 35 RBI and 48 runs scored in 90 games. The 6-0, 193-pound left-handed hitter owns a career .271 (608-for-2247) average with 142 doubles, 17 triples, 58 home runs, 337 RBI in 593 career minor league games. The Stockton, Calif. native was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 17th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of University of the Pacific. He played in five Cactus League games for the Brewers this Spring, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Howell, 23, split the 2021 season between High-A Wisconsin and Double-A Biloxi, combining to hit .244 (87-for-356) with 17 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs, 51 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 97 games. The 6-3, 180-pound outfielder made his professional debut in 2018 with the Rookie-Level Arizona Complex League Brewers, batting .311 (32-for-115) with four doubles, six RBI, 14 walks and 12 stolen bases in 28 games. He attended Kirkwood Community College (IA) before being drafted by the Brewers in the 12th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft, and owns a .250 (188-for-752) average with 33 doubles, eight triples, 18 home runs, 79 RBI and 133 runs scored across 376 career minor league games.
