Phillies name Cesar Ramos bullpen coach

The Phillies have named Cesar Ramos as bullpen coach for the major league coaching staff.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Ramos, 39, spent the last two seasons (2022-23) as pitching coach for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He originally joined the Phillies organization as a player information assistant for the 2020 season and in 2021, the Southern California native served as the organization’s rehab pitching coach.

A first-round selection (35th overall) out of Long Beach State (CA) by the San Diego Padres in the 2005 MLB Draft, Ramos pitched professionally for 13 seasons, which included parts of eight seasons in the major leagues for the Padres (2009-10), Tampa Bay Rays (2011-14), Los Angeles Angels (2015) and Texas Rangers (2016).

For his major league career, the left-hander worked primarily as a reliever and posted a 10-15 record with two saves, a 4.02 ERA (155 ER, 346.2 IP), 139 walks and 268 strikeouts in 267 games (14 starts). Ramos spent his final professional season in 2017 pitching for Lehigh Valley before retiring.

Ramos and his wife Melanie currently reside in Surprise, Ariz., with their three children, daughter Addison, and sons Jameson and Greyson.
