Pirates announce details for Clemente Day events

The Pittsburgh Pirates will celebrate the life and legacy of Roberto Clemente with a diverse array of events and
activities in honor of Clemente Day tomorrow. Members of the Pirates front office, coaching staff and players will come
together to honor Clemente’s humanitarian impact, which extended far beyond the baseball diamond.

Clemente Day Resolution: The day will begin with a profound tribute to the Pittsburgh Pirates great, as state and
local officials will issue resolutions recognizing September 15 as Roberto Clemente Day in the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and the state of Pennsylvania. State Senator Devlin Robinson, State Representative Aerion Abney, and Allegheny
County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald will be present to formally issue the resolution. The ceremony, which will be
attended by members of the Pirates front office and the former baseball legend’s family, will take place at the Roberto
Clemente Statue.

Clemente Day of Service: In the spirit of Clemente’s community service legacy, Pirates players, coaches, front office
staff and members of the Clemente family will participate in the Pirates annual Clemente Day of service, presented by
FedEx. Volunteers will donate their time to five service projects supporting our community. Each of the four Pirates
Charities pillars: youth baseball and softball, military support, cancer support and mental health will be represented.
Additionally, a fifth project supporting Pittsburgh’s Hispanic community with take place at the Latino Community Center.
To grow the game of baseball, representatives of the club will take part in an improvement project, renovating a
field home to hundreds of South Side RBI athletes. Volunteers with a focus on mental health awareness will be replenishing donations and preparing meals at a Women's Center and Shelter.

At PNC Park, players and staff will show their military appreciation by assembling care packages with food, hygiene
products, games, and activities. Packages will be sent to our troops overseas with the help of Operation Troop
Appreciation.

Set to coincide with the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Pirates will look to give back to Pittsburgh’s
Latino Community Center. The Pirates will work to replenish the center’s food pantry and provide toys and activities for the
early childhood room.

Pirates President Travis Williams and Pirates pitcher and Clemente Award nominee David Bednar will be on hand to
visit the AHN Cancer Institute at Allegheny General Hospital. The Pirates will visit the AHN Cancer Institute staff and
patients with pastries and coffee, as well as comfort packages for patients at Glimmer of Hope Metastatic Breast Cancer
Center.
