Pirates announce family experience upgrades at PNC Park

The Pirates today announced several new family experience upgrades for all fans at PNC Park. This season the Pirates are partnering with Allegheny Health Network (AHN) to present a new Sensory Room as well as the Mamava Nursing Pod Station to make it more comfortable for families and mothers.

The new Sensory Room, which was designed in collaboration with AHN and Kulture City, is a quiet and safe space to help fans relieve sensory overload. Located on the PNC Park Suite level, closest to and accessible from the Left Field Rotunda, the room will be open to all fans with sensory sensitivities.

Sensory sensitivities or challenges with sensory regulation are often experienced by individuals with autism, dementia, PTSD and other similar conditions. One of the major barriers for these individuals is sensitivity to over stimulation and noise, which is a part of the environment in a venue like PNC Park. The PNC Park

Sensory Room contains items such as bubble walls, sensory art panels, and sensory touch panels. Items such as noise cancelling headphones, fidget toys, and verbal cue cards will also be placed into this room. A member of the PNC Park Guest Relations staff will be available each game to assist all Sensory Room guests.

In addition to the Sensory Room, the Pirates and AHN are partnering to present the Mamava Nursing Pod Station located on the Main Concourse behind Section 131. Guests can download the Mamava App on iOS or Android to find and unlock the nursing pod at PNC Park.

This ADA nursing pod has a 60” turnaround, dual grab bars, two benches, a shelf, power outlets, and a door that can be locked for privacy. Through the app, guests are able to control the airflow and lighting of the nursing pod. A nursing pod attendant will also be available to assist users with access as well as wipe down areas after every use. The Mamava Nursing Pod is one of two nursing spaces available to guests in the ballpark. The other nursing mothers’ station is located at Guest Relations at the base of the PNC Park Home Plate Rotunda.

The two new spaces are in addition to other family-friendly areas added around the ballpark. Prior to the 2020 shutdown, the Pirates announced an expansion of the kids’ concession offers found at the Bucaroos kids’ concession area. Bucaroos is a family-focused concessions concept in which several stands will be found throughout PNC Park to ensure more access points for families each game.

The family value offerings are now available at two areas located in section 146 and 307. Each family-centric concession stand includes hot dogs, popcorn, warm pretzels and Coca Cola products for just $2.50 each, as well as nachos and chicken nuggets for $3 each. In addition, a third Bucaroos kids concession stand, located in Legacy Square, will reopen later this season when current attendance capacity limitations are expected to increase.

“We strive to maintain PNC Park as an ultimate entertainment destination for ALL baseball fans and with that in mind we will continue to work to ensure our fans are comfortable and we create the necessary spaces to ensure that goal,” said Pirates President Travis Williams. “We recognize the family dynamic is ever changing and the growing needs of individual families are incredibly important to us.”
