Pirates claim Aaron Fletcher off waivers from Seattle
The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed left-handed pitcher Aaron Fletcher off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
The 26-year-old Fletcher spent a majority of the 2021 season with Triple-A Tacoma, where he went 4-0 with two saves, a 3.47 ERA (49.1ip/19er) and 45 strikeouts in 39 appearances. He also made four appearances with the Mariners during the 2021 campaign.
Fletcher was originally selected by Washington in the 14th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft before being acquired by Seattle in a five-player trade on July 31, 2019.
During his first full minor league season in 2019, he went 5-4 with a 2.09 ERA (73.1ip/17er) with four different teams across three levels. Following the 2019 campaign, he was named to the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars team after striking out 15 batters in 9.1 scoreless innings in eight relief appearances while pitching for the Peoria Javelinas.
Fletcher has gone 11-5 with three saves, a 2.69 ERA (153.2ip/46er) and 163 strikeouts in 93 appearances (seven starts) during his minor league career.
