Pittsburgh Pirates acquire infielder Yu Chang from Cleveland
The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired infielder Yu Chang from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations.
The 26-year-old Chang played in four games with the Guardians this season before being designated for assignment on May 26. He also played in a combined eight games on a rehab assignment between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus while he was on the 10-day injured list from April 15 to May 13.
Last year Chang hit .228 (54-for-237) with 14 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 39 RBI in a total of 89 games with Cleveland. He also hit .280 (37-for-132) with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 25 RBI and an .867 OPS in his final 41 games from July 1 through the end of the season. During that time, Chang’s .867 OPS ranked second on the Guardians behind Jose Ramirez (.902).
To make room for Chang on the 40-man roster, infielder Cole Tucker has been designated for assignment. The Pirates will make a corresponding move on the 26-man active roster when Chang joins the team.
Chang will wear uniform #6.
