Rangers Acquire RHP Chase Silseth, C Logan O'Hoppe From Los Angeles-AL
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers tonight acquired right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league infielder Angel Arredondo. In corresponding roster moves, catcher Danny Jansen and right-handed pitcher Jose Corniell were transferred to the 60-day Injured List. Texas optioned O’Hoppe to Triple-A Round Rock, and Silseth will be added to the Rangers active roster when he reports.
The 26-year-old Silseth has gone 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA (12 ER/39.2 IP) over 47 relief appearances with the Angels this season, posting a 1.412 WHIP and 10.9 strikeouts per 9 innings. He has held opposing batters to a .230/.329/.331/.660 slash line with 22 walks against 48 strikeouts, permitting just 3 home runs all year (0.68 HR/9). Over his last 7 appearances since July 9, Silseth has not allowed an earned run (1 R-0 ER) over 6.2 innings. He has produced a whiff percentage of 32.7%, ranking in MLB's 93rd percentile according to Baseball Savant. Silseth has also generated an average exit velocity of 86.6 mph, ranking in the 88th percentile in MLB, along with a 32.0% hard-hit rate (87th percentile).
Originally selected by Los Angeles-AL in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of the University of Arizona, the New Mexico native has spent his entire career in the Angels organization. He has pitched for the Angels in each of the past five seasons, compiling a record of 8-7 with a 4.12 ERA (64 ER/139.2 IP) spanning 82 games/17 starts over his MLB career.
O'Hoppe (pronounced 'oh-HOP-ee') has served as the Angels' primary backstop in 2026, making 68 starts behind the plate while batting .209 (49-234) with 4 home runs, 8 doubles, and 23 RBI. Entering Wednesday, his 52 successful ABS challenges were the 4th-most among A.L. catchers. A right-handed batter and thrower, O'Hoppe carries a .273 (18-66) batting average against left-handed pitching this season, the 3rd-highest such mark among A.L. catchers (min. 50 at bats). In 25 career games against Texas, the 26-year-old owns a .261/.320/.457/.778 (24-92) slash line with 5 home runs, 3 doubles, and 10 RBI, including one of his four career multi-home run games on July 9, 2024 at Angel Stadium.
The five-year MLB veteran (2022-26) has appeared only for the Angels in his career, batting .227 with 57 home runs and 153 RBI in 386 games, including 340 starts at catcher and 15 at designated hitter. Since 2024, O'Hoppe's 288 starts behind the plate are 3rd-most in the A.L., trailing only Seattle's Cal Raleigh (302) and the Athletics' Shea Langeliers (299). In 2024, O'Hoppe accrued 2.7 wins above replacement (baseball-reference), the 3rd-highest total among Angels and 6th-most by an A.L. backstop. A native of West Islip, N.Y., O'Hoppe was originally selected by Philadelphia in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft from St. John the Baptist (N.Y.) H.S. He was traded by Philadelphia to Los Angeles-AL in a 2022 trade deadline swap that sent outfielder Brandon Marsh to Philadelphia.
Arredondo, 19, is batting .247 (74-300) with 8 home runs, 47 RBI, and a .769 OPS in 86 games for Single-A Hickory this season, making defensive starts at third base (74 games) and shortstop (12 games). The right-handed hitter batted .244 with 9 home runs and 74 RBI in 161 career minor league games over three seasons with Rookie-level ACL Rangers (2024-25) and Hickory (2025-26). The Mexico native, was signed by Texas as an international free agent on January 15, 2024.
Jansen, 31, was initially placed on the 10-day Injured List on June 6, retroactive to June 3, with a right forearm strain. The 23-year-old Corniell was placed on the 15-day Injured List on July 21 with a right flexor strain.
With tonight’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with eight players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler and Jose Corniell, LHP’s Jalen Beeks, Cody Bradford, Robert Garcia, and Jordan Montgomery, INF/OF Michael Helman, and C Danny Jansen).
