Rangers Make Four Selections on Day One of 2026 MLB Draft

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today selected four players on day one of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft. Rounds one through four took place today in Philadelphia, with the Rangers making one selection in each round. The second and final day of the Draft will begin tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. CT with rounds 5-20, concluding at approximately 6:45 p.m. CT. Texas will select 14th in each of rounds 5-20 to finish the draft.

LHP GIO ROJAS (1st round, 16th overall) – The 19-year-old Rojas went 11-1 with a 0.58 ERA (6 ER/72.2 IP) and 124 strikeouts against 17 walks in 13 appearances for Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) High School this spring, helping the Eagles capture their sixth consecutive state title. He was the Miami Herald’s Broward County 7A-5A Pitcher of the Year for a second straight season, also earning the honor as a junior in 2025 after going 13-0 with a 0.72 ERA (7 ER/68.0 IP).

Rojas starred for the Team USA 18-and-under National Team in 2025, earning All-World Starting Pitcher distinctions at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup in which the United States placed first. The 6-foot-4 southpaw tossed 11.0 scoreless innings in the tournament and was teammates with Brody Schumaker, son of Rangers manager Skip Schumaker.

SS CONNOR COMEAU (2nd round, 54th overall) – Comeau (pronounced KOH-moh), who turns 18 on August 11, prepped at L.C. Anderson High School in Austin, Texas, where he hit .512 with 28 RBI and 19 extra-base hits as a senior in 2026. The left-handed-hitting infielder was named to the Austin American-Statesman’s All-Central Texas First Team this spring. As a junior, he was an honorable mention All-State selection by the Texas Sports Writers Association. A Pflugerville, Tex. native with family ties to Canada, Comeau took part in the 2025 Canadian Futures Showcase and finished second in the event’s home run derby at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

LHP BRODY BUMILA (3rd round, 89th overall) The 18-year-old Bumila (pronounced buh-MILL-uh), who measures 6-foot-9, 255 pounds, went 6-0 with a 1.10 ERA and 106 strikeouts across 44.1 innings during his senior campaign for Bishop Feehan H.S. in Attleboro, Mass, including a 20-strikeout no-hitter in early May. A two-sport athlete, Bumila also helped lead the Shamrocks basketball squad to a state title this past winter. Ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 23rd-best prospect, the southpaw garnered MaxPreps Male National Athlete of the Year and Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year honors.

RHP HUDSON CALHOUN (4th round, 117th overall) – Calhoun, 21, went 5-4 with a 4.05 ERA (21 ER/46.2 IP) in 22 games/2 starts for Ole Miss during his 2026 junior campaign, striking out 67 batters – the most among relievers on a Rebels squad that appeared in the College World Series this past season. The right-hander totaled 2 wins and one save over 7.1 innings of relief with just one run allowed during the 2026 Lincoln Regional and Auburn Super Regional. Calhoun also appeared on the summer college circuit in 2024 with Kenosha of the Northwoods League, going 4-1 with an 0.57 ERA (2 ER/31.1 IP) in 6 starts. Born in Tupelo, Miss., Calhoun prepped at McCallie (Tenn.) School in Chattanooga, where he earned TSSAA All-Region and TBCA All-State honors during his 2023 senior season.
