Rangers Recall LHP Adam Macko from Triple-A Round Rock, Option LHP Robby Ahlstrom to Triple-A Round Rock

Milwaukee — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field:

The 25-year-old Macko was acquired via trade from the Toronto Blue Jays on August 3 in exchange for infielder/outfielder Josh Smith and is seeking his Rangers debut. Since the trade, the southpaw has appeared 5 times for Round Rock – including once as a starter – posting a 5.63 ERA (5 ER/8.0 IP) with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. His most recent appearance came in a start last Friday at El Paso when he logged 3.0 scoreless frames with no walks and 4 strikeouts (49 pitches/33 strikes). He made his Major League debut for the Blue Jays this season on May 18 at New York-AL and picked up his first MLB win in his third appearance on May 21 at Yankee Stadium (1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO). In 22 big league appearances/one start for Toronto in 2026, Macko is 2-0 with 3 holds, a 4.91 ERA (12 ER/22.0 IP) and 10 walks against 23 strikeouts.

Macko is currently rated as the Rangers’ no. 23 prospect, according to Baseball America. Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft by Seattle, Macko is the first modern-day MLB player born in Slovakia and would become the first Slovakia-born player to appear for the Rangers/Senators franchise, although he was drafted out of Vauxhall High School in Vauxhall, Alberta, Canada. The left-hander logged 2.1 scoreless frames (3 H, 1 BB, 4 SO) across 3 relief appearances for Team Canada during the 2026 World Baseball Classic, where he was teammates with current Rangers right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill. Macko was acquired by Toronto along with right-handed pitcher Erik Swanson in a trade with Seattle for outfielder Teoscar Hernández on November 16, 2022.

Ahlstrom, 27, appeared 36 times in relief for the Rangers in his first career Major League stint after his contract was selected from Triple-A Round Rock on June 1, going 3-1 with a 6.03 ERA (21 ER/31.1 IP) with 10 walks and 28 strikeouts. The left-hander strung together 13 consecutive scoreless outings from July 18-August 10, then allowed runs in 4 of his last 6 appearances, including his most recent action on Wednesday at Chicago-AL (1.0 IP, 5 R-ER). Ahlstrom returns to Round Rock where he posted a 2.76 ERA (9 ER/29.1 IP) in 21 games from Opening Day-May 29.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 38 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler, Jose Corniell, and Jack Leiter, LHP’s Jalen Beeks and Robert Garcia, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
