Rangers reinstate OF Travis Jankowski from MLB paternity leave list, INF Jonathan Ornelas optioned to Triple-A Round Rock

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves ahead of Monday night’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field:

Jankowski, 32, has batted .292/.388/.375/.763 (56-192) with 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, and 25 RBI across 75 games with Texas this season. He leads all Rangers with 16 stolen bases and ranks second in the American League (3rd in MLB) with a 94.1% stolen base success rate (16-for-17). Prior to being placed on the MLB Paternity Leave List on Friday, Jankowski was batting .284/.366/.364/.730 (25-88) in his last 31 games, including a career high-tying 9-game hitting streak from July 3-19 (also July 31-August 10, 2016 with San Diego).

Ornelas, 23, played in two of the team’s last five games after being selected from Triple-A Round Rock on August 7. He made his Major League debut last Monday at Oakland, entering the game as a pinch-runner for Mitch Garver in the seventh inning and scoring the go-ahead run for Texas in a 5-3 win. He also appeared as a defensive replacement at third base on Wednesday at Oakland, but did not register a plate appearance. Ornelas has slashed .250/.360/.348/.708 (84-336) with five home runs and 39 RBI in 88 games with Round Rock this season.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Jacob deGrom, Brett Martin, and Jake Odorizzi) on the 60-day Injured List.
