Rangers Sign RHP Trevor Williams to Major League Contract, Recall INF/OF Cam Cauley from Triple-A Round Rock

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced the following transactions prior to tonight’s game against the Athletics at Globe Life Field:

Major League Baseball active rosters expand to 28 players from September 1 through the end of the regular season. The additions of Williams and Cauley bring the Rangers’ active roster to the 28-man limit.

Williams, 34, returned from injury this year to make 8 relief appearances for Washington from July 29-August 23, posting no record with a 2.65 ERA (5 ER/17.0 IP) and 22 strikeouts against 6 walks before he was designated for assignment on August 25. The right-hander missed the first half of 2026 recovering from July 2025 internal brace surgery on his right ulnar collateral ligament, logged 6 minor league rehab appearances in the Nationals chain, then was activated from the 60-day Injured List on July 29. In his 8-game stint with Washington this season, Williams worked 2.0-or-more innings on 5 occasions and was scoreless in 6 of 8 outings, including a season-high 3.1 shutout frames with 5 strikeouts on August 18 against the Rangers at Globe Life Field. He was granted his release by the Nationals on Sunday.

An 11-year MLB veteran, Williams has compiled a 53-65 record with a 4.43 ERA and 1.373 WHIP figure in 227 games/178 starts for Pittsburgh (2016-20), Chicago-NL (2021), New York-NL (2021-22), and Washington (2023-26). Originally a 2nd-round selection by Miami in the 2013 MLB Draft from Arizona State University, Williams was traded to the Pirates after the 2015 season and made his Major League debut with Pittsburgh on September 7, 2016, vs. St. Louis. The San Diego, Calif. native owns a 3.66 ERA in 49 career MLB relief appearances. Williams has thrown 8.1 scoreless innings in 2 career games/one start at Globe Life Field. His initial appearance for Texas will be his first for an American League club in his MLB tenure.

Cauley, 23, is beginning his second stint on the Rangers roster in 2026, his rookie campaign. He was selected by Texas on June 29 and batted .207 (12-58) with one home run, one triple, 3 doubles, one RBI, 5 walks, 9 runs scored, and a .626 OPS in 28 games before being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on August 14. In his Major League debut on June 29 at Cleveland, Cauley became the seventh Ranger in club history to post a triple for his first MLB hit. He appeared at four different positions during his first stint with Texas – second base (12 games), centerfield (11 games), rightfield (3 games), and shortstop (2 games). Since his option to Triple-A, the right-handed-hitting utilityman slashed .339/.397/.732/1.129 (19-56) with 6 home runs, 4 doubles, and 14 RBI in 13 games for the Express, leading the Pacific Coast League in homers and RBI since August 19.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List (RHP’s Carter Baumler, Jose Corniell, and Jack Leiter, LHP’s Jalen Beeks and Robert Garcia, and INF/OF Michael Helman).
