Red Sox add outfielder Gilberto Jimenez to 2021 Spring Training roster
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today added outfielder Gilberto Jimenez to the team’s 2021 Spring Training roster as a non-roster invitee. The Red Sox have now invited 34 players to Major League Spring Training camp as non-roster invitees.
Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Jimenez, 20, is ranked by Baseball America as the Red Sox’ No. 7 prospect and as the organization’s best athlete, as well as having the best outfield arm among Boston’s minor leaguers. The switch hitter signed with the Red Sox in August 2017 out of the Dominican Republic and has since played in 126 minor league games, batting .338 with 30 steals and an .832 OPS. In 2019, he was named a New York-Penn League mid-season All-Star with Short-A Lowell, finishing the year as the league’s leader in batting average (.359) and hits (84). Jimenez was named the Red Sox’ 2018 Latin Program Position Player of the Year.
