Red Sox Announce Roster Moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

Whitlock, 27, has pitched in 16 games (10 starts) for the Red Sox this season, posting a 5.49 ERA (38 ER/62.1 IP) with 62 strikeouts. Selected from the New York Yankees in the Major League portion of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft, the right-hander has gone 17-10 with a 3.53 ERA (84 ER/214.0 IP) in 93 career appearances (19 starts) for Boston (2021-23).

Paxton, 34, has posted a 4.50 ERA (48 ER/96.0 IP) with 101 strikeouts in 19 starts for the Red Sox this season. The left-hander most recently pitched September 1 at Kansas City. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, the British Columbia native has recorded a 3.69 ERA (349 ER/850.2 IP) in 156 career starts with the Mariners (2013-18, 2021), New York Yankees (2019-20), and Red Sox (2023).

Robertson, 25, has allowed 14 runs in 14.1 innings over 11 appearances this year, his Major League debut. Acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 25, the right-hander has also posted a 3.16 ERA (15 ER/42.2 IP) and .205 opponent batting average (33-for-161) with 58 strikeouts in 42 Triple-A games for Oklahoma City and Worcester.

Jacques, 28, pitched the ninth inning yesterday against Baltimore, allowing one run. The left-hander has made 23 appearances (one start) with the Red Sox this season, his Major League debut, recording a 5.06 ERA (15 ER/26.2 IP). Selected by the Red Sox from Pittsburgh in the Triple-A Phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft, the New Jersey native has also posted a 2.83 ERA (11 ER/35.0 IP) in 30 games (one start) for Worcester during 2023.
