Red Sox place left-handed pitcher Joely Rodriguez on 15-day injured list

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed left-handed pitcher Joely Rodriguez on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to July 29) with right hip inflammation. To fill Rodriguez’s spot on the active roster, the club recalled left-handed pitcher Joe Jacques from Triple-A Worcester.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Rodriguez, 31, has recorded a 6.55 ERA (8 ER/11.0 IP) in 11 games for the Red Sox. Each of the left-hander’s last six appearances have been scoreless, most recently tossing 2.0 innings against the Atlanta Braves on July 25. Signed by Boston as a free agent on November 23, 2022, the Dominican native owns a 4.70 ERA (82 ER/157.0 IP) in 168 career games with the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-17), Texas Rangers (2020-21), New York Yankees (2021), New York Mets (2022), and Red Sox (2023).

Jacques, 28, has posted a 4.86 ERA (9 ER/16.2 IP) in 14 appearances (one start) for Boston this season, the first Major League outings of his career. In 23 games with Worcester (one start), the left-hander has recorded a 3.58 ERA (11 ER/27.2 IP). Originally selected by Pittsburgh in the 33^rd round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Manhattan College, the New Jersey native was acquired by the Red Sox in the Triple-A phase of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.
