BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

• Placed left-handed pitcher Darwinzon Hernandez on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to August 30) with a sprained left SC joint.

• Selected left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham, right-handed pitcher Robinson Leyer, and infielder/outfielder Yairo Muñoz to the active roster from the Alternate Training Site.

The Red Sox have 28 players on the active roster, 39 on the 40-man roster, and 58 in the Club Player Pool.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Hernandez, 23, has not allowed a run in any of his three relief outings for the Red Sox this season, tossing 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts. The left-hander most recently pitched on August 29 against the Nationals, recording the final two outs of the third inning via strikeout and stranding the bases loaded. Hernandez made his major league debut for the Red Sox last season, striking out 38.8% of his batters faced (57 of 147) and posting a 4.45 ERA (15 ER/30.1 IP) over 29 appearances (one start).

Kickham, 31, is in his first season in the Red Sox organization after being signed by the Red Sox in November. The left-hander spent all of 2019 with Triple-A New Orleans in the Miami organization, going 5-5 with a 4.27 ERA (41 ER/86.1 IP) in 31 appearances (13 starts), posting a 3.86 ERA (14 ER/32.2 IP) as a reliever. He made 14 appearances (3 starts) for San Francisco in 2013-14, allowing 37 earned runs in 30.1 innings. Selected by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2010 June Draft, Kickham has spent time in the Giants (2010-14, ‘16), Cubs (2014-15), Mariners (2015), Rangers (2015), and Marlins (2016-19) organizations.

Leyer, 27, is in his first full season in the Red Sox organization, after pitching for Short-A Lowell and Double-A Portland in 2019. The right-hander made 15 appearances (one start) for the Sea Dogs last season, posting a 2.66 ERA (7 ER/23.2 IP) with 30 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .163 batting average. Signed by the Chicago White Sox as an international free agent in 2011, Leyer has posted a 4.24 ERA (294 ER/623.1 IP) over 236 minor league appearances (84 starts) in the White Sox (2012-17), Reds (2018), Mariners (2019), and Red Sox (2019) organizations.

Muñoz, 25, was signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent in March. The right-handed hitter has spent his professional career in the A’s (2012-17) and Cardinals (2018-19) organizations, making St. Louis’s Opening Day roster in both 2018 and 2019. In 196 major league games – all with the Cardinals – Muñoz has hit .273 (127-for-465) with 10 home runs, 13 stolen bases, and a .723 OPS.
