Registration open for Texas Rangers Coaches' Clinic at Youth Academy - Sunday, January 29

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers will host a free Coaches’ Clinic at its West Dallas Youth Academy on Sunday, January 29.

Participating in the Coaches’ Clinic will be Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, pitching coach Mike Maddux, assistant hitting coach Seth Connor, strength and conditioning coach José Vázquez, and former Rangers infielder Steve Buechele.

Taking place from 9:45 a.m. to noon, the clinic is open to youth baseball and softball coaches across North Texas looking to gain valuable experience from the Rangers Major League coaching staff and alumni. Areas of focus will include fielding, hitting, pitching and weight training.

Registration for the Texas Rangers Coaches’ Clinic will be open through Saturday, January 28, while spots remain. To register for the free clinic, visit the events registration page at texasrangers.com/academy.

Bochy, hired in October 2022, has guided teams to eight postseason appearances, six division titles, four pennants, and three World Series championships over his 25 years as a Major League manager. The former Major League catcher is one of five managers in MLB history to lead a team to three World Series titles in a five-year span.

Maddux, who has spent the last 20 seasons as a Major League pitching coach, is making his return to the Rangers in 2023 after five seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, who advanced to the playoffs in his last four seasons with the team. In his 15-year pitching career from 1986-2000, Maddux was 39-37 with a 4.05 ERA in 472 games.

Connor enters his second season with the Rangers after being hired in January 2022. Connor’s eight-year coaching career has seen him coach in Minor League systems for the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays. In his 187 games as a player in the Blue Jays system, he combined to bat .244 with 6 home runs and 76 RBI.

Vázquez is entering his 18th season with the Rangers. Vázquez is a Certified and Registered (CSCS-R) Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and was recognized as MLB Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2014.

Buechele spent eight years of his 11-year playing career as a Rangers infielder at both second and third base. Buechele has served as the Rangers’ first base coach (2018), bench coach (2015-17), and farm system manager (2009-14), and currently works as a pre and post-game analyst on Bally Sports Southwest.
