Rockies add five players to the 40-man roster

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Blair Calvo and Riley Pint, infielders Warming Bernabel and Julio Carreras, and outfielder Brenton Doyle.

Bernabel, 20, was signed by the Rockies on July 2, 2018 as a non-drafted international free agent out of Bani, D.R. … split the 2022 season between Single-A Fresno and High-A Spokane, combining to slash .313/.370/.499 with 26 doubles, 14 home runs, 71 RBI and 23 stolen bases, posting a .920 fielding percentage in 89 games at third base … named a 2022 MiLB.com Organizational All-Star … in three Minor League seasons with Colorado spanning 189 games, has hit .295 (217-for-736) with 134 runs scored, 50 doubles, two triples, 25 home runs, 140 RBI and 35 stolen bases.

Calvo, 26, was selected by the Rockies in the 23rd round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of Flagler College (St. Augustine, Fla.) … appeared in 29 games with Double-A Hartford in 2022, all as a reliever, going 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA (35.0 IP, 12 ER) while averaging 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings (47 SO, 35.0 IP) … in three Minor League seasons with Colorado, has gone 10-7 with a 4.38 ERA (135.2 IP, 66 ER), two saves, 161 strikeouts and 53 walks in 78 appearances (one start) … originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 31st round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Eastern Florida State College, but did not sign.

Carreras, 22, was signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted international free agent on Feb. 24, 2018 … a 2022 Northwest League All-Star, slashed .289/.352/.473 with 37 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 59 RBI and 17 stolen bases for High-A Spokane … his 37 doubles led all of Minor League Baseball in 2022 … led the Northwest League in extra-base hits, second in average and hits (116), while ranking third in total bases (190), slugging and OPS (.825) … was promoted to Double-A Hartford on Aug. 23, appearing in 19 games for the Yard Goats … over four Minor League seasons in the Rockies organization, has hit .278 (365-for-1314) with 240 runs scored, 86 doubles, 23 triples, 29 home runs, 185 RBI and 64 stolen bases.

Doyle, 24, was drafted by the Rockies in the fourth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of Shepherd University (Shepherdstown, W.Va.) … spent time with both Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque in 2022, combining to slash .256/.300/.473 with 82 runs scored, 22 doubles, five triples, 26 home runs, 77 RBI and 23 stolen bases … ranked among Eastern League leaders in runs scored (74, T-2nd), total bases (212, T-4th), extra-base hits (47, T-8th) and home runs (23, T-8th) … his 26 total home runs ranked fourth among all Colorado Minor Leaguers … in 2021, was named a Minor League Gold Glove Award Winner for his defensive play in the outfield … over three Minor League seasons with the Rockies, has hit .286 (308-for-1077) with 194 runs scored, 49 doubles, 10 triples, 50 home runs, 157 RBI and 61 stolen bases in 280 games.

Pint, 25, was drafted by the Rockies in the first round (fourth overall) in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Overland Park, Kan.) … appeared in 38 games for Double-A Hartford and three for Triple-A Albuquerque, all as a reliever, posting a combined 2-2 record with a 4.53 ERA (45.2 IP, 23 ER), 58 strikeouts and 31 walks … over six Minor League seasons with Colorado, has gone 6-22 with a 5.34 ERA (212.1 IP, 126 ER), 221 strikeouts and 165 walks in 109 games (40 starts).

Colorado currently has 38 players on the 40-man roster.
