ROOT SPORTS to commemorate Mariners 2001 season by re-airing games from the 116-win season

ROOT SPORTS is highlighting the 20th Anniversary of the Seattle Mariners record setting 2001 season with a series of programs and features that will carry through the 2021 season.

Starting Thursday, January 7, select games from the 2001 season will debut each Thursday evening with a new game airing each week right up to Opening Day.

“In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the 2001 Mariners season, we wanted to bring back some of the games and let the fans relive the historic season,” said Jon Bradford, ROOT SPORTS Executive Producer. “In addition to airing these classic games, during Thursday game broadcasts this season we will have player interviews, trivia and other segments dedicated to the 2001 season.”

Thursday’s game, which starts at 8:00pm, is from April 2, 2001, which was Opening Night against the Oakland Athletics. The game featured Ichiro Suzuki’s Major League debut and his first Major League hit, as well as Freddy Garcia’s first Opening Day start, in a 5-4 win over the A’s.
