Seattle’s Speier disciplined

Seattle Mariners pitcher Gabe Speier has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine as a result of his intentional throwing at Gleyber Torres of the Detroit Tigers in the top of the eighth inning of Wednesday’s game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Michael Hill, Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

In addition, Mariners manager Dan Wilson has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Speier’s intentional throwing. Wilson will serve his suspension today, when the Mariners and the Tigers will conclude their series in Seattle.

The suspension of Speier had been scheduled to begin today. However, Speier has elected to file an appeal. Thus, his discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.
