Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians named the American League Rookie of the Month for April, Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs named the National League Rookie of the Month for April

Outfielder Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for April, and outfielder Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for April. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Kwan earned his first career monthly award and is the first Cleveland player to win AL Rookie of the Month since Tyler Naquin won consecutive awards in July-August 2016. Suzuki was also awarded his first monthly award and became the Cubs’ third straight NL Rookie of the Month winner, following consecutive wins by Frank Schwindel in August and September of last season.

Others receiving votes for AL Rookie of the Month included starting pitcher Joe Ryan (3-1, 1.17 ERA, 23.0 IP, 25 SO) of the Minnesota Twins; shortstop Jeremy Peña (13 R, 16 H, 8 XBH, 10 RBI) of the Houston Astros; and outfielder Julio Rodríguez (9 R, 15 H, 4 2B, 6 RBI) of the Seattle Mariners.

Others receiving votes for NL Rookie of the Month included starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore (2-0, 1.76 ERA, 20 SO, 6 BB) of the San Diego Padres and first baseman/outfielder Seth Beer (4 R, 15 H, 4 XBH, 8 RBI) of the Arizona Diamondbacks
