Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Hall, 27, made the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster and has appeared in three games with the club, including one as a starter. Acquired from the Detroit Tigers on January 17, 2020, the left-hander has allowed 14 runs in 6.1 innings this season. He has made 24 career appearances (one start) between the Tigers (2018-19) and Red Sox (2020), going 0-3 with an 11.23 ERA (47 ER/37.2 IP).

Grullón, 24, was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia on September 3. He made his major league debut with the Phillies in 2019, appearing in four games as a September call-up, but spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he was a mid-season All-Star. The Dominican native finished the 2019 season batting .283 (115-for-407) with 24 doubles, 21 home runs, 77 RBI, and 55 runs scored in 108 games for the IronPigs.

Arroyo, 25, was claimed off waivers from Cleveland on August 13 and designated for assignment on August 20. The right-handed hitter has appeared in 71 major league games with the San Francisco Giants (2017), Tampa Bay Rays (2018-19), and Cleveland (2020), batting .215 (49-for-228) with six home runs. He was selected by the Giants in the first round of the 2013 June Draft (25th overall) out of Hernando High School in Brooksville, FL.

Benintendi, 26, was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 12 with a right rib cage strain. At the time of his injury, he led the Red Sox and ranked tied for sixth in the American League in walks (11). Benintendi started 12 of Boston’s first 17 games, all in left field, and batted leadoff eight times. On the season, he is 4-for-39 (.103) with a .314 on-base percentage.
