Texas Rangers Introduce New Nike City Connect Honoring Clubs Past Branding And Hispanic Culture
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today unveiled the club’s Nike City Connect uniforms, which reimagine the familiar
elements of past Rangers looks while celebrating the Mexican influence woven into the state’s identity and into the name
the team proudly represents.
The club’s new City Connect uniforms blend tradition and cultural homage through a Cochineal-red base accented by classic
Rangers typography and symbolic detailing throughout. “Tejas” stretches across the chest in a nod to both the team’s 1980s
era uniforms and the shared heritage embedded in the state’s name, while the iconic block “T” cap and textured elements
draw from Mexican craftsmanship and artistry.
Additional design features, including papel picado-inspired artwork on the jersey’s left sleeve, charro-influenced patterns,
and a custom leather belt, honor generations of Mexican influence on Texas identity.
“This year’s City Connect uniform reflects the strong Hispanic influences that have shaped Texas, with special tributes to
Mexican heritage and Rangers history,” said Texas Rangers Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer Jim
Cochrane. “Our marketing team worked closely with Nike to translate those stories into a design that feels authentic to our
club and the connection we share with our fans.”
The Rangers will wear the uniforms for the first time on Friday, April 24 when they host the Athletics at Globe Life Field at
7:05 p.m. CT. The team will wear the uniforms every remaining Friday home game during the 2026 season, as well as two
additional Saturdays on June 6 (Mexican Heritage Weekend) and September 19 (Hispanic Heritage Weekend).
The Nike MLB City Connect Series launched in 2021 and was formed to celebrate the connection between each
organization and its city. The Rangers' new Nike City Connect uniforms follow the club’s original Nike City Connect
collection, which was released in March of 2023 and worn through the end of the 2025 season.
UNIFORM ELEMENTS:
- TEJAS: With a letter style inspired by Rangers uniforms from the 1980s, the name across the front celebrates
“Tejas,” a word rooted in the Caddo language meaning “friend” — a reminder that Texans are united, and that
baseball welcomes everyone into that friendship. - RED: The return of the beloved red uniform is reimagined with Cochineal red — a sacred crimson dye derived from
the cochineal insect and deeply significant in Mexican culture, both historically and symbolically. - BLOCK T: The classic block T on the cap, dating back to the team’s origin in 1972, is reimagined with a raised
weave that honors the rich motifs and craftsmanship of Mexican artistry. - PAPEL PICADO: The iconic state shape appears on the sleeve in papel picado — an homage to the traditional
Mexican folk art of cutting intricate designs into colorful tissue paper, symbolizing celebration and joy. - CHARRO‑INSPIRED PATTERN: Mariachi is a staple of Rangers home games. The interlocking T and fill patterns
draw inspiration from the intricate embroidery found on the Mariachi de Los Texas Rangers trajes, designed to
honor the style of the charros. - ¡VIVA TEJAS!: A rallying cry grounded in Texas identity and pride, and the name of the team’s lively post‑game
celebrations. Long live Texas! - LEATHER BELT: The debossed charro‑inspired pattern on the belt nods to the traditions and style of the vaquero
(Mexican cowboy), whose influence shaped ranching, horsemanship, and cowboy identity in both Mexico and
Texas.
