Texas Rangers selected 2023 Baseball America Organization of the Year

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers have been selected as the 2023 Baseball America Organization of the Year, it was announced today.

The only other year in which the Rangers were selected for the award came in 1989, as the club has now won twice in the honor’s 42-year history since its inception in 1982.

"When we select our Organization of the Year, MLB success does play a significant role,” said J.J. Cooper, _Baseball America_'s Editor-In-Chief. “But we're not just picking the Rangers because they won the World Series. This is an award that looks at the totality of an organization's baseball operations. The Rangers have been adept at signing free agents who have made an impact, but they've also succeeded in adding talent in trades, and have had success in landing draftees like Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford. The Rangers have had success in winning at the major league level, but also in scouting and player development.”

The Rangers won the 2023 World Series on November 1, securing the first title in the franchise’s 63-year history. Since debuting in 1961 as the Washington Senators, the Rangers were the oldest active MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL franchise that had never won a championship. Texas became the first team in MLB history to finish at least 25 games under .500 one year (68-94 in 2022) and win the World Series in the following year. The club went 11-0 in road games in the 2023 postseason, the most away wins ever by a team in a single postseason.

Rangers General Manager Chris Young was at the helm for the club’s title in his first full season as the head of baseball operations. Manager Bruce Bochy, hired by Young on October 21, 2022, became just the sixth manager in MLB history to lead teams to at least four World Series titles in a career (San Francisco: 2010-12-14; Texas: 2023).

The Rangers’ farm system ranked 10th overall in _Baseball America_’s midseason organizational talent rankings, landing four prospects on the publication’s top 100 list: OF Wyatt Langford (8), OF Evan Carter (10), SS Sebastian Walcott (82), and RHP Owen White (89). Texas was rated as the 7th-best organization in _Baseball America_’s 2023 MLB farm system Statcast pitching rankings. The Rangers’ 2023 World Series roster received significant contributions from rookies and former Texas draft selections Josh Jung and Evan Carter.

The Texas farm system had an organizational record of 357-341 (.511) in 2023, 6th-best in A.L. and 12th-best in MLB. It was the fourth consecutive season for club affiliates to produce a combined winning record. Three of the Rangers’ four full-season affiliates advanced to the postseason: Round Rock (AAA), Hickory (A+) and Down East (A-).
