The Astros Foundation grants $300,000 to SBP to aid Hurricane Harvey Recovery

HOUSTON, Texas -- Today the Astros Foundation announced a $300,000 grant to SBP to support the organization’s ongoing Hurricane Harvey recovery work. Since 2017, SBP - a national disaster recovery and resilience nonprofit founded in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina - has been rebuilding homes in Houston for families impacted by Harvey and the storms that have followed. In August, SBP commemorated five years of recovery work, bringing home over 380 families since 2017. Many families today, however, are still displaced or living in damaged homes, waiting to recover. The recent grant from the Astros Foundation will help more families rebuild their homes and lives, just in time for the holiday.

The Astros Foundation has been committed to Houston’s recovery since the storm devastated the city in August 2017. “One of the pillars of the Astros Foundation is to support the fight against homelessness,” said Paula Harris, Executive Director of the Astros Foundation and Senior Vice President of Community Affairs.“The work SBP continues to do to support families still displaced by Harvey is impactful and still needed across our city. We are happy to continue this partnership to provide quality housing options for some of Houston’s most vulnerable populations.”

This grant is the second the Astros Foundation has granted to SBP for Harvey recovery work. In 2019, the Foundation awarded $270K to SBP, which, paired with additional philanthropic investments, helped to rebuild 16 homes and preserve $800K of home equity for the homeowners. This recent grant will be tied to helping at least 15 more families get back into a safe and secure home.

“We are grateful to the Astros Foundation for its continued support of helping Houston families rebuild their homes and lives after Hurricane Harvey,” said Zack Rosenburg, CEO of SBP. “The Astros enduring support of SBP's mission is helping families know that they matter, and that they will finally be able to spend the holidays at home once again.”
