Tristan Peters, Sal Stewart named Rookies of the Month for August

All-Star outfielder Tristan Peters of the Chicago White Sox has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for August, and All-Star infielder Sal Stewart of the Cincinnati Reds has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for August. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Peters earned his first career award and became the ninth White Sox rookie to garner the honor, joining Ross Gload (September 2004); Alexei Ramírez (August 2008); Gordon Beckham (July 2009); José Abreu (3x: April 2014, June 2014 & July 2014); Eloy Jiménez (September 2019); Luis Robert Jr. (July/August 2020); Yermín Mercedes (April 2021) and Munetaka Murakami (May 2026). The recognition for Peters marks the second consecutive season that two American League rookies on the same team won the award, joining Nick Kurtz (2x: June & July 2025) and Jacob Wilson (May 2025) of the Athletics. Stewart earned his second award after previously winning in March/April. He is one of nine Reds rookies to receive the award alongside Austin Kearns (May 2002); Josh Hamilton (April 2007); Joey Votto (September 2008); Todd Frazier (August 2012); Billy Hamilton (June 2014); Aristides Aquino (August 2019); Jonathan India (July 2021) and Spencer Steer (May 2023), and became the first rookie in franchise history to earn the honor on multiple occassions. Stewart became the 48th rookie to receive the award multiple times, and is the second to do so this season, joining Colorado’s TJ Rumfield who won in May and June.

• The 26-year-old hit .320 (24-for-75) with six homers, 14 RBI, six doubles, 10 walks, 14 runs scored, a .640 slugging percentage and a .414 on-base percentage in 27 games.
• The Winkler, Canada-born Peters paced all qualified rookies in slugging, OPS (1.054) and extra-base hits (12); tied for second in homers and doubles; ranked third in batting average and OBP; and ranked fourth in total bases (48).
• The seventh-round selection in the 2021 Draft (by MIL) tied a Major League rookie record with a homer in five consecutive games from August 22nd-26th . Along with the May American League Rookie of the Month Munetaka Murakami, the duo became the first set of rookie teammates since at least 1900 to homer in five consecutive games in the same season. He also joined Hall of Famer Babe Ruth as the only players in Major League history to homer in each game of a five-game span while recording 10-or-more hits, multiple doubles, multiple walks, and a stolen base.
• During his homer streak, Peters recorded his first career walk-off homer on August 23rd against the Mets and reached base safely five times two days later on August 25th against the Rangers. In addition, Peters hit for the cycle on July 10th against the Athletics and hit his first career grand slam as part of his first career six-RBI game on June 26th against Kansas City, becoming the only player in Major League history to accomplish each of those feats in a single season.
• The Southern Illinois University Carbondale product joined Carlos May (May 1969) and José Abreu (July 2014) as the only rookies in White Sox franchise history to record a month with at least 10 walks, at least six homers and a batting average of at least .320. Peters' 11 outs above average on the year are tied for third-most among Major League outfielders, matching Michael Harris II, Cedric Mullins and Jacob Young, and trailing only Pete Crow-Armstrong (24 OAA) and Ceddanne Rafaela (15 OAA).

Sal Stewart, Cincinnati Reds (@salstewartjr)

• The 22-year-old hit .304 (35-for-115) with eight homers, 21 RBI, two doubles, seven walks, 21 runs scored, a .530 slugging percentage and a .349 on-base percentage in 29 games.
• The Miami, Florida native paced all qualified rookies in homers, RBI, total bases (61) and runs; tied for most hits; tied for second most extra-base hits (10); ranked third in slugging and fourth in OPS (.879).
• The 2026 All-Star finished the month of August leading all Major League hitters with 105 RBI on the season. With his 100th RBI on August 26th, Stewart became the third rookie in Baseball history to be the first player to reach 100 RBI in a season, joining Hall of Famer Ted Williams who did so in 1939 with the Red Sox, and José Canseco who did so in 1986 with the Athletics. On August 28th, Stewart surpassed Jim Greengrass (100 RBI in 1953) for the most RBI in a single season by a rookie in franchise history. Stewart put together a 10-game hitting streak from August 17th-25th and reached base safely in 27 of his 29 games during the month.
• The 32nd overall selection in the 2022 Draft became just the 14th rookie in MLB history to produce 30-or-more homers and 100- or-more RBI in a single season since 1920 (when RBI became official), tallying his 100th RBI on August 26th at San Francisco and connecting on his 30th homer on August 29th at Wrigley Field. Stewart is on pace for 123 RBI, which would be the most by any Reds hitter since Hall of Famer Dave Parker’s 125 RBI in 1985. His 31 homers on the campaign are the second-most by a Reds’ rookie, trailing only Hall of Famer Frank Robinson’s 38 longballs in 1956.
• The Westminster Christian High School product became the fifth rookie in franchise history and the first since 1963 to record a month with at least 35 hits and 21 runs scored, joining Frank Baumholtz (2x: August & June 1947); Greengrass (July 1953); Robinson (2x: June & August 1956) and Pete Rose (2x: June & July 1963). Stewart became the third Red since 1900 to hit 30- or-more homers in his age-22 season or younger, joining Hall of Famer Johnny Bench (45, 1970) and Robinson (38, 1956 & 31, 1958). Additionally, Stewart is the fourth Major League rookie in the last 80 years to post four separate months with 20- or-more RBI, joining Albert Pujols (2001); Mark McGwire (1987); and Walt Dropo (1950)

Others receiving votes for AL Rookie of the Month included outfielder Henry Bolte (.310, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 5 2B, 1 3B, 7 BB, 19 R, 2 SB, .366 OBP, .451 SLG) of the Athletics; relief pitcher AJ Blubaugh (0-0, 0.56 ERA, 11 G, 1-for-1 SV, 16.0 IP, 10 H, 1 HR, 2 BB, 16 SO) of the Houston Astros; outfielder Chase DeLauter (.363, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 2B, 2 3B, 11 BB, 17 R, 2 SB, .440 OBP, .538 SLG) and All-Star starting pitcher Parker Messick (3-2, 2.02 ERA, 6 GS, 35.2 IP, 27 H, 7 BB, 39 SO) of the Cleveland Guardians; and starting pitchers Ryan Johnson (1-1, 1.71 ERA, 5 GS, 26.1 IP, 14 H, 16 BB, 15 SO) and Walbert Ureña (3-2, 3.30 ERA, 6 GS, 30.0 IP, 22 H, 15 BB, 32 SO) of the Los Angeles Angels.
