Twins name Pete Maki pitching coach
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have named Pete Maki pitching coach. Maki replaces Wes Johnson, who accepted the role of pitching coach at Louisiana State University.
Maki, 39, began the 2022 season as the club’s bullpen coach, his third campaign in that role. The Lufkin, Texas native originally joined the Twins organization prior to the 2018 season as minor league pitching coordinator and has been part of the club’s major league staff since 2020, when he served as interim bullpen coach. Prior to joining Minnesota, he worked as an assistant coach at the University of New Haven (2006-07), as assistant pitching coach at Columbia University (2008-15) and as the pitching coach at Duke University (2015-17).
Additionally, Colby Suggs has been named bullpen coach. Suggs, 30, has been with the Twins since 2019 and held several roles, including coordinator of run prevention from 2021-2022 and advance scout from 2019-20. Prior to joining the Twins, he held the position of bullpen coach at the University of Arkansas in 2018 and coached at private facilities from 2016-17. The Sulphur Springs, Texas native was the 73rd overall pick by Miami in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and pitched four minor league seasons in the Marlins organization from 2013-16, after pitching for the University of Arkansas from 2011-13.
